weaker and different from them.
I came a long way before I found within myself

Nineteen years earlier: "I can walk! I can do it! What a miracle!"
I leaned into my crutches and began to run. After years of lying on
my back and staring at the ceiling, I was finally able to control my
limbs! I was drunk with happiness.
"Careful, Ahrele, you might fall, chalilah," Ima cried in concern.
Ima, who believed in me more than anyone else in the world, who
battled the decree of my paralysis with all her might - was afraid I
might be hurt. Still, she never stopped encouraging me to make more
and more progress; she kept planting hopes and dreams in my mind
that the day would come when we'd play tag in the yard! The day
would come when I'd catch her in a game of tag!
From the deepest place in my heart, I want to tell you, dear boys
and girls, that if I succeeded, with Hashem›s help, in standing up and
walking with my own two feet - then every one of you can achieve
and realize many, many of your hopes and dreams. I invite you to join
